A full renovation of a steel-framed residence located in central Tokyo reinterprets a structure shaped by past trends. The original exterior, finished with once-fashionable 45×45 mm ceramic tiles, was transformed through a process of applying a mortar skim coat over the existing surface, followed by a specialized coating finish. The intervention simplifies the façade, giving the building a calm and contemporary presence.
Inside, the spatial composition was reconsidered to enhance openness. By absorbing the former corridor into the living–dining–kitchen (LDK) area, the plan achieves a more generous and fluid living space, allowing the interior to feel both larger and more cohesive.
